An Ode To Sundays

Ohhhh, Sundays. Aren't they just the best?! Sundays are by far my favourite day of the week. Often they are the only day that Sam and I both get off together and we always make sure we make the most of it. There's something about Sundays that always feels slower and more purposeful than the rest of the weekend, and when they're done right, they can set you up for a really good week ahead.

I love that you can justify a bit of a lie in on a Sunday. I love lying in bed, propped up with a cup of strong Yorkshire tea while I read a couple of chapters of my book. There's no other time of the week when you can really get away with that, is there?

Of course, brunch is important on a Sunday too. One of my favourite things to do is to take a walk up to the Mill Kitchen for their epic avo on toast, but I can be just as happy with a bacon sandwich or a croissant smothered in strawberry jam. The key is to make sure it's something a little bit indulgent - there's no place for your routine porridge or fruit and a yoghurt on a Sunday.

I like to get any chores out the way early - nothing too strenuous of course, but it's much easier to relax when everything is in it's right place, isn't it? And I also really enjoy a walk on a Sunday afternoon - especially at this time of year when the air is crisp and the leaves are changing. We're lucky to live right near the canal which is such a pretty spot to stretch your legs and get some fresh air.

The main event on a Sunday of course is some sort of delicious roast dinner! I especially like slow cooking something to perfection (this pork belly recipe is ideal) and there's nothing more satisfying than the smell filling your house as you relax on the sofa. Accompanied by lots of blankets of course, and my favourite blogs and magazines.

We usually serve up our roast with a big glass of red wine, and Sunday is usually the only day of the week when we succumb to dessert. Because calories don't count on Sundays, right?! At least that's what I tell myself.

My favourite way to finish the weekend is by climbing into a freshly made bed (such a nice feeling!), lighting all the candles and binge watching something on the telly. My current faves are Scandal and Gilmore Girls, but I sometimes like to put an old film on too.

Aren't Sundays just the best?! How do you like to spend yours?
