5 reasons I love Amsterdam
I was lucky enough to have a little jaunt to Amsterdam this weekend. It was my second time visiting but I felt like I got to see so much more of the "real" city this time - there's nothing that I love more than exploring cities and stumbling across hidden gems. Here are 5 things that I love about Amsterdam: 1) Pancakes
Pancakes with banana, vanilla ice cream an chocolate sauce. FOR BREAKFAST. Amazing.
Amsterdam has so many lovely markets. We had a mosey round their famous flower market and also visited their Sunday market at Westergasfabriek. I loved the Sunday market - it was filled with stall selling the most beautiful creative wares and also had great street food vans dotted around the place. Perfect.
3) The Nine Little Streets
On Sunday we had a wander down to the Nine Little Streets shops which had been recommended to us by a few people. The whole area was filled with beautiful boutiques, quirky coffee shops and one off finds. It really reminded me of some of the hipper parts of Berlin and Brooklyn, where you never know what you're going to stumble upon next.
I love canals. I grew up near one and currently reside about 5 minutes away from the Leeds Liverpool canal, where I regularly run and go on long walks to nice pubs. So I was in my element getting lost in Amsterdam's canal network - so picturesque and lined with the prettiest little townhouses that I could totally imagine living in!
One of my utmost favourite things about Amsterdam was how pretty much everybody travelled by bike. Combined with the winding canal network it gave the city a really lovely sense of calm - so far removed from the sirens and pollution that fill cities like Amsterdam and London.
