10 favourites this week (#5)
Happy Monday everyone! Apparently today is the most depressing the day of the year, dubbed Blue Monday by the media, but I’m having a pretty good one. I’m having a productive day at work, the sun is shining in through the window and I have a date night with Netflix planned.
Anyway, back to the main reason behind this post – talking about then things that have been making me smile this week.
1) The return of Easter chocolate
I have developed an alarmingly sweet tooth over the past month or so (I’m blaming Christmas for cranking up my choccie addiction) and the return of Mini Eggs and Malteaster bunnies has been brightening my cold and dark January days!
2) Enjoying a long weekend
We both took Friday off work and headed over to Anglesey to visit Sam’s parents. We had a lovely weekend and having three consecutive days off together was a much enjoyed rarity. We were also fussed over and fed all weekend so it felt very indulgent.
3) Catching up with the girls
On Wednesday I headed to Bird & Beast in Leeds city centre for dinner with the girls. It was the first time we’d seen each other since New Year and we had lots to catch up on. For me, there is little better than good food, good company and lots of chatting.
4) Being uber productive
I felt like a little whirlwind whizzing round the office last week. I don’t if it’s because I had a day off to compensate for or if I was just feeling inspired from our company day, but I was ON FIRE. I got so much stuff ticked off my to-do list, and as sad as it is, that makes me REALLY HAPPY. Here’s hoping the productivity sticks around this week too.
We had a few little flurries of snow last week here in Yorkshire and it was oh so pretty to watch out of my office window. Unfortunately it didn’t stick very well, but that would only have cause traffic chaos anyway!
6) Running with amazing views
One of my favourite things about being in Anglesey at the weekend was getting to do my long run in new surroundings. Trudging the same stretch of the canal can get a bit dull at times, so running beside the sea with the sun shining down was a little bit awesome. (See above for shot of pretty sea view that makes me go “ahhhhhh”).
7) Having a picnic in bed
We were too tired to make anything “proper” when we got home last night, so we called in at Waitrose on the way home to buy a little picnic which we ate in bed, whilst watching Homeland and drinking red wine. It felt like such a relaxed and decadent way to end the weekend, and Waitrose’s Pecorino and Basil dip gave me all kinds of feels.
8) Being by the sea
I love the sea. Living in Leeds, we’re pretty landlocked, so whenever we get to spend any time near the coast I really make the most of it. Waking up to lush turquoise views, taking long beach walks and eating dinner near to the pier all made me smile A LOT this weekend.
9) Roaring fires
Warming up after a really long dog walk with a cup of tea, a good book and a roaring open fire has got to be one of the cosiest things in the whole wide world. It almost makes this uber cold weather enjoyable.
10) Feeling content
Finally, the last thing that’s been making me grin like a Cheshire cat this week is finally feeling content. I feel like life is in a really good place at the moment – work is going really well, I’m making more time in my personal life for the things I enjoy and our future plans are looking pretty rosy. I’ll be holding on to this feeling tightly for as long as possible!
