5 reasons why you should start a blog

reasons why you should start a blog I’ve been writing this little blog now for about 9 months or so and I can’t tell you how much I bloody love it. It’s probably the most long term hobby I’ve had since my ballet lessons as a kid and I can’t see myself getting bored of it any time soon.

I think running and writing a blog has something to offer to everyone – here are just 5 reasons why you should start a blog.

1) You will learn SO much

From photo editing and coding to how to write engaging content, you will learn so many transferrable skills that will useful to you in other areas of your life. Using social media more has helped me understand how to better use it for my job, and if you’d told me 12 months ago that I had the basic tech skills to run my own site I’d have laughed at you. As the world constantly evolves to become more digitally focussed, it definitely doesn’t do any harm to be a bit more digitally savvy.

2) You’ll meet lots of lovely people

Both virtually and in real life! Bloggers have got to be one of the kindest, most supportive communities of people going and they’ll always be quick to offer you support and encouragement. It never fails to make my day when people take their time out to comment on my blog or share my content, and meeting bloggers in real life is so much fun (especially as they don’t mind when you take loads of photos of your cocktails!).

3) It’s a great place to document your memories

This is one of my favourite things about having this little space is that I will be able to look back on it in a year or two and remember all of the exciting places I have visited or the way I was feeling at a particular time in my life. Having a little slice of the internet that is just yours means that you can treat it as a bit of an online scrapbook – I think my 10 favourites this week posts will be especially lovely to read back in a couple of years’ time.

4) You will feel inspired

I have never felt as inspired or creative as I have done since starting my blog – the more I write and read, the more ideas I come up with. Blogging has given me fresh perspectives and thoughts on so many things like my career and what I want to get out of life. It also makes me get up and do stuff on the days when I feel like just slothing about in bed, which has got to be a good thing…

5) It can open up so many new opportunities

I didn’t really realise how many opportunities were out there for bloggers until I got started, but having an online portfolio of your work is always a good thing. I know bloggers who have managed to bag themselves new jobs through their blogs or have even turned their blogs into their full time jobs. For me personally, it has given me the opportunity to write for a website I have adored for ages (I’m looking at you, The High Tea Cast) as well as work with fab brands and attend fancy events. All things that I wouldn’t have dreamed of 12 months ago!
