8 perfect dates in Leeds
It was about this time 5 years ago that Sam and I had our first date. We've lived in Leeds for the whole time we have been together, and have been on hundreds of dates nights in the city since our first one in September 2010.
So today I thought I would share a roundup of 8 perfect dates in Leeds, tried and tested by us!
1) See a film at Everyman cinema
This is so much better than your average cinema date experience. You get to sit on a sofa instead of those uncomfy flip down chairs for starters, plus it has a well stocked bar and an ace food menu. For extra romance have a drink on the terrrace at sunset before watching your film.
2) Explore the deli market at Kirkstall Abbey
We used to do this all the time when we lived in Kirkstall. The atmosphere at the market is fab and there's always a great selection of street food to try. You can also pick up plenty of fresh and local ingredients to cook a nice meal together when you get home.
3) Go for a curry
Maybe not one for a first date (awkward garlic naan breath and all that) but going for a curry is one of our favourite dates. Leeds is totally spoiled with great curry houses, and there's nothing like enjoying a nice meal and a beer together at the weekend.
4) Get competitive at Roxy Lanes
I have to caveat that this one can be a tad dangerous if you're uber competitive like Sam and I (I have been know to strop big time when I have lost!) but getting drunk and bowling at Roxy Lanes is SO much more fun than you're average date night. The music is usually pretty great too.
5) Catch a gig at The Brudenell Social Club
The Brudenell Social Club is the holy grail of Leeds gig venues and you can catch a live act there most nights of the week. The beer is cheap, the crisp selection is plenty and you can even have a game of pool before the gig - what more could you want?!
6) Experience the romantic set up at Kendell's Bistro
Think fairy lights, candles dripping with wax, an extensive wine menu and gorgeously rich French food. This is a great one for special occasions - anniversaries, birthdays and the like. Their early bird menu is fantastic value and the staff really make it a special visit.
7) Enjoy a sharing board and a game of Scrabble at Friends of Ham
The atmosphere at Friends of Ham is perfect for a date - cosy, casual and well stocked with board games. Order a sharing board of meats and cheese with a bottle of wine and settle down for a longwinded game of Scrabble - a lovely one for a rainy Sunday afternoon.
8) Visit Roundhay Park
Roundhay Park is lovely all year round - in the summer call by one of the delis on Street Lane and assemble a picnic, and in the winter wrap up warm and take a long walk around the lake. The nearby Roundhay Fox is also lovely for a pint or a roast afterwards.
