Travel Takeover | How to get a taste of Thailand in just 2 weeks

All this week on the blog I'm hosting a Travel Takeover to help you blow away those winter blues. Today's post is courtesy of the lovely Frankie, who has had some pretty epic travel adventures that will definitely make you jealous! Her guest post has got me daydreaming about planning a trip to Thailand... travel thailand sunset

Thailand used to be inaccessible to your average holiday maker. It was the home of backpackers and luxury honeymooners. People just didn't see the point in going all that way for just 2 weeks. However in the last couple of years Thailand has become a really popular destination for all types of travellers. The only problem is, how do you see all this incredible country has to offer in just 2 weeks? Luckily Thailand has a few airports so you can fly from North to South easily. If you're on a budget then you can get an overnight bus or train but this obviously takes a lot longer so you won't get to see as much!

I've created an itinerary to help you get a taste of Thailand. I've assumed that you fly in and out of Bangkok and that you'll fly to Chiang Mai and Phuket.

Fly into Bangkok - 2 nights

Crazy, crazy Bangkok. A city packed full of adventure. I love Bangkok but it's not for everyone. Use these couple of days to explore the city by Tuk Tuk and try out some of the great street food that Thailand has to offer. Must see - The floating markets and Khao San Road.

Chiang Mai - 3 nights

A beautiful city a few hours north of Bangkok. Much more peaceful and plenty of traditional temples to explore.  Must see - The Elephant Sanctuary - Care for elephants for the day!

Phuket - 2 nights

Now it's time for some sunbathing! The iconic Thailand beaches are worthy of anyone's Instagram. Relax with a Mai Thai cocktail on the beach.

Koh Phi Phi - 3 nights

The most picturesque of all the Thai islands. Sunbathe all day and then party on the beach at night. Must see - Head to the lookout point at sunset and see the Tsunami memorial. Take a longboat to Maya Bay to see where 'The Beach' was filmed.

Koh Tao - 3 nights

My favourite island. A much more chilled vibe than the other islands. Spend your evening sat on the beach listening to some acoustic music, perfect. Must see - The Ladyboys Caberet show. See Lady Gaga and Beyoncé in a whole new light!

Bangkok - 1 night

It's your last night of the holiday so head to Skybar from the Hangover movie and have a few cocktails and look out over the Bangkok skyline.

You may have noticed that this itinerary doesn't include Koh Phangan. This is because Koh Phangan is usually dead when the Full Moon/Half Moon party isn't on and when it is on, there's a minimum 5 night stay in most accommodation which will really eat into a 2 week trip - sorry!

I hope you find this useful and it gives you some inspiration if you're heading to Thailand soon!
