10 favourites this week (#65)
Happy Monday everyone! Mondays aren't as bad when they precede a short week/long weekend combo, are they? I'm really struggling to believe it's Easter this weekend - I know it's early this year, but seriously, where is March going?!
This week has been an odd one for me. I've had a couple of anxious blahhhh days, but also some really lovely, content moments too. I think making these lists is even more important during these sort of weeks, as it helps me to to be grateful for all of the lovely things in my life. And there's a lot to be grateful for. Here are my 10 favourites this week...
1) The gorgeous spring weather
Yesterday was the first official day of spring, and for maybe the first time ever, it feels like the weather is actually doing what it should be! I've really been loving all the bright blue skies and rays of sunshine, and the pretty pastel sunsets have been pretty epic too. We even had a pint while sat outside on the canal yesterday. Long may it continue!
2) Having a bath
After living in a house that didn't have a bath for the last 8 months, I have been truly embracing the bath in our new house this week! I've been saving all of the lovely bubble baths and Lush bits that I got for Christmas for this very moment and it's been ace to finally enjoy them. Plus I got to put my new bath rack to good use - it's my new favourite thing ever.
3) Nakd Nibbles
I've been continuing on my quest to find delicious treats that don't contain any refined sugar, and this week I got round to trying the Nakd Nibbles - all I can say is they are bloody AMAZING. I wasn't bowled over by the salted caramel flavour, but the toffee ones are so good and taste super fudgy - I can't believe they're made from all raw ingredients! I picked mine up in Primark but I think most of the supermarkets stock them too.
4) Buying new jeans
I picked up a pair of jeans in the sale this week - they were the size below what I usually wear but I really liked the cut of them and they were super cheap. I didn't have time to try them on so I bought them anyway to try on at home and was 95% certain I'd be bringing them back the next day, but they only bloody well fit! I've noticed my weight loss slow down a bit lately since I've started to reintroduce new foods, which definitely isn't a bad thing, but it was nice to see that my body is still adapting and changing thanks to the positive changes I've been making.
5) Coffee and coconut oil
This is my new obsession. I've been looking for a way of working more coconut oil into my diet as it has so many gut healing properties that I could really do with right now, and my dad suggested putting it in my coffee a couple of weeks ago. I finally got round to trying it this week and it's delicious - it makes the coffee taste even richer, plus it keeps me feeling full and stops me snacking which is always a good thing!
6) Celebrating St Patrick's Day
As is tradition, we headed to our local on Thursday evening for a St Patrick's day pint of Guinness. It was my first pint of Guinness in ages and it reminded me why I love it so much - so delicious and creamy and cold! It reminded me why Dublin is firmly on my list for a visit this year...
7) Skyping with Steph in Australia
It's been a while since we've been able to coordinate a group Skype to catch up with Steph in Sydney, but this weekend we managed it! It was so nice to see her lovely face (after a long six months of not seeing it in the flesh!), even if I was super envious of her tan... I really can't wait for us to be reunited in July and then again on the other side of the world in October - YIKES!
8) A visit from my lovely friend Fiona
Fi is one of my oldest and loveliest friends and I bloody love spending time with her, so I was very excited when she volunteered to drive across the Pennines and help us with DIY this weekend. We did our fair share of painting but also squeezed in some time to gossip over Prosecco and tea and cry at Disney movies. Winning weekend right there.
9) Yet more home improvements
Because my life is all about home improvements and decorating and making countless trips to B&Q now. Two very exciting things happened this weekend - we finished painting our bedroom (which means we can assemble our furniture and stop sleeping in the attic room this week, woop!) and we ordered our new carpets! I can't wait for our deep red 70s carpet to leave our house for good...
10) Slow roast lamb
Yesterday we decided to celebrate the arrival of spring with some delicious slow roast lamb. We used this Tom Kerridge recipe and left it slowly cooking in the oven all day while we painted. It's so easy to make but tastes amazing - I really can't wait to scoff the leftovers at lunch time today!
