10 favourites this week (#79)
My word, this week has been an odd one hasn't it?! I have so many *feelings* about what happened on Friday. This weekend has felt bizarre and sad and confusing and uncertain and it's been hard to truly get into the weekend spirit. It's a pretty weird time to be British. I might try to articulate my thoughts on the referendum results and the ensuing chaos later on this week, but for now, I'm going to crack on with my favourites. Because focussing on the positive and the happy is what I do on Mondays, and this Monday is no different.
1) My new Fitbit Alta
I've written recently about how I want to get better at incorporating exercise into my routine, and I think one of the big ways I can do that is by walking more. I've been umming and ahhing about buying a Fitbit for a little while, and when a couple of people in my office bought them and were raving about how much more motivated it made them to squeeze in some extra steps I decided to take the plunge and I am loving it. I will do a full review soon if anyone is interested, but so far it has definitely been encouraging me to get off my backside more, which is always a good thing!
2) Game of Thrones
I'm not going to go into any detail because TV show spoilers are like the least cool thing ever, but HOLY COW, this week's episode of Game of Thrones was epic! I was literally on the edge of my seat watching and it definitely took a while for my heart to retrieve itself from my mouth. I've really enjoyed this entire season but this episode was next level. Plus, I have a lot of love for Jon Snow's man bun. Like a serious amount of love.
3) Pub quizzing
On Tuesday night Sam and I met some of our friends at the pub for some food and quizzing action. My friend Kyle had organised the evening to raise money for charity and it was so much fun! It definitely brought out the competitive side in all of us, and while we didn't win the quiz, we did win a bottle of wine for best team name, so all was not lost. I'm determined to find a regular pub quiz for us to attend now, and I don't care how old that sentence makes me sound!
4) Shooting some photos with Matt
Wednesday evening was spent shooting some new outfit photos with Matt and it was so much fun! It was a really sunny evening so we headed down to the canal which was a bit of a change of scenery from the last photos we shot in the city centre. This space will always be much more focused on thoughts and words as opposed to outfits, but I'm really enjoying trying something a bit different. You can see the first lot of photos here and keep your eyes peeled for some more later this week...
5) Voting and feasting
I may not have been happy with the result on Friday morning, but nonetheless I always enjoy being able to go out and use my vote and Thursday was no different. Our local polling station is actually the pub (score!) so we had a pint outside afterwards and then headed to our favourite Turkish restaurant for dinner afterwards. It was a really lovely evening and made me fall in love with our little village even more.
6) Almost Famous team lunch
There was little that could have cheered me up on Friday, but burgers at Almost Famous with my team definitely helped! It's one of my favourite places to eat in Leeds and filling my belly with delicious Bacon Bacon fries and an epic burger slightly took the edge off of the crazy news. Plus it's always nice to hang out with my lovely team outside of our office.
7) Hanging out with Fi
On Friday night one of my best friends Fi came to stay - I feel like I've been on such an ace streak of best friend hangouts recently, and it's making me really happy! We drank a lot of Prosecco, ate a lot of beige foods and put the world to rights all evening. Fi is one of my favourite people in the whole wide world and seeing her always makes me feel better - Friday was no different.
8) Brunch with Beverley
My favourite favourite thing about blogging is getting to meet the ace people I adore on the Internet in real life and hang out with them. It's so cool to finally meet someone you have admired for a long time! On Saturday I got to meet Beverley for brunch - she has recently moved to Leeds - and we had such a lovely time eating delicious things and chatting about all sorts. It was the perfect start to Saturday and reminded me how lucky I am that this little blog has brought me into contact with so many interesting people that I might not have met otherwise. The internet is pretty cool, huh?
9) Watching Glasto on the telly
While I'd always rather be in the field at Worthy Farm, enjoying the festival in all it's glory, being able to watch Glasto on the telly is still pretty ace. I (along with probably most of the country!) wept through Adele's set and I would have given anything to be in the crowd enjoying LCD Soundsystem - it's so different enjoying a festival from the comfort of your own sofa, but at least you can keep the cider cold and have no chance of being rained on!
10) New garden furniture
This was definitely my Sunday highlight! Our garden has been a bit of a tip ever since we moved in to our new house in March - the previous owners had pretty much let it go to ruin. But a couple of weeks ago Dad and Sam spent ages clearing it all out and this weekend we got some bargain garden furniture. Once we'd put it together we spent the whole afternoon chilling out in the sunshine - it's so so nice to have our own little bit of outdoor space and I know we'll be getting lots of use out of it this summer.
