Why Ibiza Is The Perfect Holiday Destination
The last time I visited Ibiza I was 19 and on a girly holiday with my friends. I fell totally in love with the island, but in all honesty, we didn't see much more than the inside of the clubs and the sunloungers where we slept off our hangovers. I had judged the White Isle based on its party credentials alone and not much else. So when the lovely team at icelolly.com invited me to experience more of what the island has to offer, I was definitely intrigued. I was also a bit worried that I might not love it as much now I'm edging ever closer to my late twenties (gulp!) but I couldn't have been more wrong. The truth is, Ibiza is the perfect holiday destination.
I spent 3 days and nights exploring all that the island with icelolly.com and some other lovely bloggers (shout out to Emma, Rachel, Jen and Lucy for being such ace company!) and I came home feeling certain that I'll be back again soon. Here's why...
It's really gorgeous
The first thing that hits you as the plane starts to descend for landing in Ibiza is just how STUNNING this island is. I was lucky enough to have a window seat on the flight and as the plane circled over Es Vedra and the gorgeous turquoise bays, I had to pinch myself that I was getting to explore it in all its summertime glory.
We did our fair share of beach hopping while we were on the island and we were definitely not disappointed. The sand is golden, the water is clear and they generally look like an Instagram dream - perfect for a bunch of bloggers right?! Whether you want to party at a beach bar, build sandcastles with your family or find your very own secluded cove, there really is a beach for everyone.
And then of course, there's the sunsets. Oh my word, those sunsets! We sat on the rocks outside sunset strip with hundreds of other people, drinking cheap ciders that we had bought in the local supermarket as we watched the sun dip lower and lower, and it felt like total summer perfection. It was probably the only time during the whole weekend that we were all silent - it sounds cheesy, but I think we were all rendered a bit speechless by the gorgeous show. I could watch it every night and never get bored.
The atmosphere is incredible
One of the things that really stands out about Ibiza compared to other European holiday destinations is the atmosphere. The only place I can compare it to is Glastonbury - it's got that laidback, fun vibe and you can tell everyone is there to have a good time. There's something in the air that I can't quite put my finger on.
Every single person we came across - from the hotel staff to the tour operators to our fellow holiday makers - was friendly and smiley and happy. We got chatting to lots of different people around the pool and everyone would always say hi - it was really welcoming and it makes such a huge difference to your general holiday enjoyment!
The weather is amazing
Good weather is obviously a pre-requisite for a decent summer holiday spot and Ibiza could not be more perfect on this front! The skies were clear blue everyday we were there and the breeze was just enough to keep things comfortable. It was so nice to eat dinner outside and never have to think about taking a jacket out. Plus the bright sunshine makes everything look amazing!
The nightlife is the best in the world
It's impossible to write about Ibiza without mentioning the nightlife - it is pretty incredible after all! The thing I realised this time though is that there really is something for everyone, whatever type of thing you're looking for. Obviously there's the big super clubs like Pacha and Amnesia if you're planning on raving until 6am, but there are other alternatives too.
For example, we went out every night but we were always back at the hotel by around 1am, ready for a cava sangria nightcap. Places like Zoo Project and Ushuaia mean that you can get your partying fix without totally wiping out the next day, which is perfect if like us, you don't have loads of time on the island. Or of course, you can always head onto another club afterwards if you're a real party animal!
And then there's the day time pool parties. We went to Craig David's TS5 pool party at Ibiza Rocks and it was totally INCREDIBLE! The music was so so good and of course Craig David was amazing - 14 year old me would have been so proud! Dancing around the pool in the sunshine with the girls was definitely one of the most fun Sunday afternoons I've ever had - I couldn't stop smiling.
If dinner and drinks are more your thing, Ibiza has got that covered too. The old town is perfect if you're looking for some authentic tapas and Cafe Mambo on sunset strip is a great place for cocktails.
There's loads to do
If lying on a golden beach or partying till the early hours doesn't do it for you then don't worry - there's so much more that you can get up to on this gorgeous island!
You could catch the boat over to nearby Formentera or do a bit of shopping at the Las Dalias Hippy Market. Or if you're looking for something more adventurous you could try your hand at some water sports. We went parasailing and learnt how to paddle board and both were amazing!
Paddle boarding required a little bit more concentration but it was super fun once we got the hang of it. I am usually terrible at any sports that require any level of balance or coordination, but I managed to only fall off my board once!
Just writing this post has convinced me that I need to get back to Ibiza ASAP! I really want to take Sam - he's not much of a sunbather so I've always assumed that it wouldn't be for him, but now I know how much else there is to do I think he'd really enjoy it. Maybe I'll take him next year for his 30th...
Either way, I know it won't be too long until I'm back on the White Isle - I totally fell in love with it all over again, and for totally different reasons than I did when I was 19. It's an incredible place, and definitely the perfect holiday destination.
Have you been to Ibiza before? Did you assume it was just for partygoers?
* I was sent on this trip by the lovely team at icelolly.com but all fangirling about Ibiza is my own! Honestly, just ask my friends and family - I've not stopped raving about it since I got home...
