10 favourites this week (#99)
Happy Monday everyone! Isn't it funny the way December can even make Monday's feel cheerful? The thought of lots of festive fun this week just makes getting up that little bit easier. Did you all have a lovely weekend? I had a perfect one, which is probably also helping my mood today. Here are my 10 favourites this week...
1) A festive TK Maxx haul
I did that thing last week were you pop into TK Maxx for one thing and leave with 2 bags and a load of fabulous stuff you definitely didn't need. I got loads of festive goodies, including Christmas candles, some decorations and all of my cards - both TK Maxx and Homesense are ace at this time of year!
This week I've been listening to the Griefcast podcast on my way to work and I've really been enjoying it. It's basically lots of comedians talking about their experiences of death and grief with host Cariad Lloyd - it's emotional but funny, and the balance between the two is perfect. I've really struggled to find much honest and open discussion of grief on the internet (which is so strange seeing as it's something we'll all go through) but this really does the job.
3) Putting our Christmas tree up
On Tuesday night I caved and put our Christmas tree up - I just couldn't wait for December! It's the first one in our very own home so it felt extra special and I love how it looks. We've been very much enjoying putting the lights and the fire on and marvelling at how cosy our living room looks right now.
4) Pub quizzing with our friends
My friend Teddy hosted a pub quiz for the charity Water Aid last week, which is gave us all the chance to get together, have a drink and realise how terrible our general knowledge is. We sadly came last (not a surprise!) but it was such a fun evening and we had a laugh regardless!
5) Advent running
This year I'm taking part in advent running, which is basically doing 30 minutes of running (or any other activity) every day between 1st Dec and Christmas Day. I'm going to write a separate post about this later in the week to explain why I'm doing it, but I have been thoroughly enjoying getting out everyday for a run - I forgot how much I love that feeling you get when you come home from a good plod.
6) Gilmore Girls
I've started watching Gilmore Girls from the beginning (like the rest of the Internet world it would seem!) and I am bloody loving it. It's such easy, nostalgic viewing and a couple of episodes with the gang in Stars Hollow is the perfect antidote to a stressful day at work.
7) A dreamy weekend at North Star Club
This weekend we were lucky enough to spend a couple of nights at the incredibly gorgeous North Star Club. I've got a full post about our stay coming later in the week, but it was honestly just what we needed. We toasted marshmallows on the fire and had long lie ins in the gigantic bed and cooked our dinner on the BBQ - it was perfect, and we came home feeling very relaxed!
One of the things I enjoy most about December is Vlogmas - I love the influx of new videos to watch and I really like seeing how everyone celebrates the festive period! I'm having a little go of it myself this year (albeit weekly rather than daily!) - you can come and watch here if you like.
9) A day out at the seaside
Before heading back to Leeds yesterday we drove across to the coast to get a seaside fix. We went for a big walk at Flamborough Head and then drove across to Bridlington to sample the best fish and chips in the UK and take a stroll on the prom. We had a lovely time - I think I actually prefer visiting the seaside in the winter!
10) Making mulled wine
Last night Sam and I made our own batch of mulled wine and drank it on the sofa while watching Miracle on 34th Street - such a festive night in! It tasted delicious and it made our whole house smell like Christmas - I'll definitely be making more over the next couple of weeks.
What have you been up to this week? Are you feeling festive yet?
