10 favourites this week (#139)

Happy Monday everyone and happy October! This month is one of my favourites - the temperature starts to drop, the evenings get darker and it's completely socially acceptable to spend lots of time indoors with candles and blankets. Basically heaven for a homebody like me. I can't wait for autumnal walks, cosy nights in and all of the yummy comfort food... Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself as always - I need to tell you all about this week's favourites before I start planning all the cosy activities. Here goes...

1) New knitwear

The eagle eyed amongst you might remember that I was supposed to be having a no-spend September, but this week I caved and treated myself to some new knitwear. In my defence, it was totally freezing in my office and I couldn't concentrate on my work because I was too cold... I picked up a basic grey roll neck which I know I'll get a lot of wear out of, plus a gorgeous orange cardigan which is basically autumn in knitwear form. God bless this season!

2) Making Oprah

I was on the lookout for some new podcasts this week, and after a couple of recommendations I downloaded the Making Oprah series. The three episodes tell the behind-the-scenes story of the iconic Oprah Winfrey show, from the humble beginnings in Chicago to the cult following Oprah amassed around the world. It was super interesting and I learnt a lot from it too. Perhaps the biggest lesson was that Oprah credits a lot of her success to focussing on her own horse and staying in her own lane - something I'm sure we could all do with remembering.

3) Catching up with blogging friends

On Wednesday evening I was in London for work which gave me the perfect opportunity to catch up with my favourite southern blogging gals. I met Lucy, Sam and Ellie for dinner and we had such a lovely time - we chatted non stop for about 3 hours straight, ate all the delicious chicken at Nandos and probably drank a tad too much wine for a Wednesday evening. Plus I finally got to meet Lucy's bub, Anaïs, who was just so adorable. I know I say it all the time, but I'm so grateful for the people blogging has brought into my life.

4) Goodies from Lucy

As if the excellent chat, baby cuddles and wine sharing wasn't enough, Lucy also brought me some lovely goodies from her beauty sample cupboard, including some gorgeous perfume and a serum that I am absolutely loving. It was such a generous and sweet thing of her to do and eased my midweek blues. Yet more proof that blogging friends really are the best!

5) A very beautiful delivery from & Other Stories

I got home from London to find a beautiful delivery waiting for me from the team at & Other Stories. They'd sent me a gorgeous bouquet of flowers to celebrate their collaboration with Firenza Floral Design, along with a bottle of perfume that they'd chosen for me. It was one of those deliveries that made me do a little happy dance and the flowers have been putting the biggest smile on my face all weekend.

6) A cosy afternoon on the sofa

Some of you may remember me mentioning that the company I work for has a policy that allows us to finish at 3pm on a Friday during the summer months. This Friday just gone was the last of the early finishes and I made the most of it by coming home, lighting the candles and pouring myself a large glass of wine, before crawling onto the sofa with my book. I probably should have been cracking on with chores and life admin, but I can't tell you how happy those few hours of calm made me.

7) Bloggers Blog Awards

On Saturday I headed to the Bloggers Blog Awards to celebrate our wonderful industry with some of my all time blogging faves. I was shortlisted in the lifestyle category (which I found totally bonkers) and while I didn't win, I was so happy to celebrate some of my favourite ladies who scooped an award. It's always nice to get together with people who just get this whole blogging lark and I came away feeling super inspired.

8) Hanging out with my best pal

Saturday was made even better by the arrival of my best pal, Fiona, who came for a sleepover before she heads off on her travels this week. It was so lovely to spend some quality time with her catching up on life and putting the world to rights in the kind of way you can only do with someone you've know since you were 16. I'm super sad that I won't get to see her now until December, but I can't wait to follow along with her Canadian adventure!

9) A lovely family lunch

One of my favourite things to do on a Sunday is enjoy a lovely family lunch, so I was in my element yesterday whipping up a feast for my in-laws. It was so nice to see them all and catch up over a yummy cottage pie (autumn is all about the comfort food, right?!), plus I got to have lots of giggly cuddles with my gorgeous little nephew. It was such a lovely afternoon, made even better by the fact that my mum-in-law brought Daim bar cake for dessert...

10) A productive blogging evening

After a super busy weekend I realised last night that I had a lot of blogging work to catch up on, so I snook off to our attic room for a couple of hours while Sam watched the football. I got plenty of content ready for the week ahead which is making me feel way more organised, plus I really enjoyed writing away completely uninterrupted!

How has your week been? What were your highlights?
