Sharing My Favourite Travel Moments

The other day Sam and I were chatting about all of the brilliant trips we've been lucky enough to take together over the past 7 years. We've been to some incredible places and had some pretty great experiences on our travels, and it got me thinking about my favourite travel moments that I've been lucky enough to enjoy. Writing them all down here to share with you has made me feel incredibly grateful for all the opportunities and experiences I've enjoyed so far, and it's also got me thinking about what I want to add to the list over the next couple of years! Here are my favourite travel moments...

Seeing the Northern Lights in Iceland

favourite travel momentsLet's start with a biggie, and one I will always, always feel incredibly grateful for - seeing the Northern Lights in Iceland! We were so lucky as the forecast was saying that it would be unlikely we'd get to see them on our trip, but we actually spotted them on our very first night. I can remember just feeling totally overwhelmed by how incredible nature is as we watched the aurora borealis dance around in front of us - a moment I'll remember forever.

Enjoying a helicopter tour of New York

There are plenty of places to take in the amazing views in New York, but nothing quite compares to seeing it from a helicopter! Sam treated me to a helicopter tour of the city during a birthday trip a couple of years ago and it was incredible. We went up at golden hour, just as the sun was beginning to set, and it was beautiful to see the pink and orange hues reflect off all of the iconic buildings. It's expensive but absolutely worth it.

Watching the sunset in Ibiza

favourite travel momentsI'm lucky enough to have watched some gorgeous sunsets in some epic places, but nothing compares to watching the sun dip behind the sea in Ibiza. I always head to Cafe Mambo to enjoy the sunset whenever I'm on the island and honestly, it gives me goosebumps every single time! There's something about sharing the moment with the hundreds of other people who gather to watch nature's show that makes it feel really special.

Exploring Hong Kong on my own

This travel moment is particularly special to me because it was the first time I did any real solo travel. I was lucky enough to be sent to Hong Kong for work and had weekends and evenings to myself to explore. At first I found it pretty intimidating to be in such a busy city on my own, but I quickly found my feet and got to enjoy some amazing experiences, such as taking in the view from the top of the Peak and visiting the Big Buddha on Lantau Island.

Riding in a speedboat across Lake Como

favourite travel momentsLake Como is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places I've ever been to. I was lucky enough to visit for my cousin's wedding a couple of years ago, and luckier still to be driven to the ceremony on a speedboat. I remember feeling like a movie star as I sped across the lake with my family, all of us dressed in our fanciest outfits and marvelling at the views. It's a memory and an experience that will stay with me forever.

Visiting Paris in autumn

favourite travel momentsParis is without a doubt my most visited travel destination of all time, but I think my favourite trip to date has to be the few days we spent there last October. We weren't there for long but everything was perfect - from the changing leaves to the glorious sunsets to the beautiful hotel we stayed at. Whenever I think of Paris now, I will always remember the contentment of wandering along the River Seine in the warm autum sunshine.

Seeing the Berlin Wall for the first time

favourite travel momentsI have always been fascinated by the Berlin Wall - the demolition began on the week that I was born and as my Mum kept all of the newspapers from her time in hospital for me to read, it's something I've always been aware of. I remember poring over them as a kid and being so intrigued by this city that was split in half over night, so getting to see the wall up close for the first time and learning more about life in Berlin during that time was so interesting.

Getting engaged in Brooklyn

Last but by no means least is my favourite ever travel experience - getting engaged in Brooklyn! It's a place that has always felt incredibly special to me and I could go on and on about all the great experiences we've had there, but nothing will ever compare to Sam getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him with the gorgeous view of Manhattan in the distance. I love that my ring was made in Brooklyn too - it's a visual reminder of one of the happiest moments of my life, with my favourite person, in my favourite place.
