Life Lately: A Little Catch Up
My god, it's been a long time since I sat down and just typed a little catch up post like this. I've really enjoyed putting together more structured content recently, but honestly, it's these little personal and unedited letters that I love to write the most. It kinda makes me feel like I'm going for a coffee (or let's face it, a G&T) with you all and catching up on everything that's been going on (although the conversation is a little bit one sided, so leave me a comment to let me know what you've been up to too!). So, what can I tell you? Well, first things first - I've got a new job! You might have noticed that the volume of content on this blog has slowed down a little bit recently, and the reason for that is that I've been going through a lengthy interview process that required lots of prep, but it's all paid off and I'll be starting my new role just before Christmas.
I have to admit that I'm a little bit nervous - I've been with the same company for the past 3 and a half years now, and it's been a hard decision to leave a job and a team that I absolutely love, but I knew it was time to do something new career wise and this opportunity felt like the perfect opportunity to do just that.
I'll be moving from a big corporate company to a little tech start up which will be a big change, but I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into a new challenge. I would be lying if I said that imposter syndrome wasn't raising it's ugly head, and I might write about that at a later date, but on the whole I'm feeling excited and pretty darn proud of myself.
Things have also been ramping up with the charity too - we threw our first ball for Blossom's Legacy this weekend which was absolutely incredible, and we're now starting to plan for some of the water survival programmes we'll be rolling out next year. I'm so proud of my family and fellow charity trustees for everything we've been able to achieve in such a short space of time - it blows my mind to think of all the money we have already raised.
I think being a part of the charity has done me the world of good this year - it's meant so much to have something positive to focus on and it really does feel like we're making some huge steps in memory of our little girl. As the difficult period of Blossom's birthday and Christmas approaches, it helps to feel like we're doing something in her name, and I can't wait to see what 2018 holds for us.
On top of all the work and charity news, I've also been pretty busy in my personal life too! We've travelled a lot recently which has been amazing - I've loved spending some quality time with Sam, and it's been ace to explore some new places together. It was starting to feel like I was living out of a suitcase a little bit though, so I'm pleased that we'll be spending the rest of 2017 at home. It's been an absolutely huge year for us, and I'm looking forward to having the time to soak it all in and reflect on it before 2018 rolls around.
The other thing I've been thinking about a lot recently is this blog. It's been a pretty exciting 12 months for SophieCliff.com, with award nominations and incredible opportunities, and I've been putting a lot of thought into what I want the next chapter to look like. I'll be spending a lot more time travelling with my new job which will mean I have less time to spend blogging, so I really want to focus on the bits that I, and you, love the most. I'm still working things through but do let me know what your favourite part of this blog is so that I can make sure I'm working on all the right stuff.
And I think that's about it! I hope this post hasn't been too dull for you to read, but I love to keep you guys updated and it felt only right to share everything that's been going on lately. As you can see, things have been pretty busy, but ace too. I'm so pleased with how 2017 has turned out so far, and I can't wait to see what this next month holds as I get stuck into my new job. Here's to the rest of 2017 and a great start to the new year too!
