A Little New York Bucket List
5 weeks today we’ll be hopping on a plane and heading back to my very favourite place in the world - New York! This will be the 6th time Sam and I have headed to the city together, and we often get questions from friends and family about why we keep revisiting the same place when there’s a big wide world out there to see.
Our answer? Well, first of all, New York feels like the very best place in the world to us. We love the high vibe energy and atmosphere, we love the world class food, we love that feeling of knowing that anything could happen. But also the real beauty of New York is that you can never see it all.
Sure, we’ve ticked off most of the big sightseeing attractions over the years, but there’s still so much more for us to explore and enjoy. Here’s what we’re hoping to see and do on our trip this year - a little New York bucket list if you will.
Wake up to a view of the New York skyline
As this trip is to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary, we’ve pushed the budget a little bit and will be staying at the dreamy Hoxton hotel in Williamsburg. We paid a bit extra to get a room with a Manhattan view, and I know that it will make waking up every morning 10 times more exciting. Plus I’m really excited to be based in Williamsburg for this trip - we’ve stayed there quite a few times now and it’s a part of Brooklyn that is very special to us as we got engaged there.
Visit some more bookstores
I make no secret about the fact that Strand bookstore in New York is like heaven to me, and no trip to the city is complete without a visit there. But this year I’ve got quite a few other bookstores on my list to check out too, include Books are Magic, WORD and McNally Jackson. Better start saving those book pennies now…
Eat our way around the TimeOut Market
When we went to Lisbon a few years ago, Sam and I fell in love with the TimeOut food market there. So imagine how beyond chuffed we were to learn that they’ll be opening a brand new TimeOut market in DUMBO later this month! I can’t wait to eat some very delicious food with an incredible view of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Watch a movie on a Manhattan rooftop
I’ve wanted to get to a Rooftop Cinema Club event during our last few trips, but the timing has never quite lined up for us. This year though we have tickets to go and watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on a rooftop in Midtown at sunset and I can’t wait - I think it will be such a cool experience.
Explore some different areas
During our last few trips we’ve been able to explore the majority of what Manhattan has to offer, and we’ve been lucky enough to see quite a bit of Brooklyn too, but there’s still so much more for us to explore. On this trip we’ve got plans to explore some different parts of Brooklyn, including Red Hook, Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens, and we’d also like to get across to Queens too.
Ah, just writing all of that down has made me so excited! Who agrees that sometimes the planning of a holiday can be almost as fun as the holiday itself?
