If you've been reading this blog for any length of time then you will know that I'm a big fan of Yorkshire. I moved here 8 years ago and I've never had any desire to leave since. I love that there is just so much to see and do in this gorgeous county, and I'm always banging on to anyone who will listen about why they need to visit. With the exchange rates being a bit pants (understatement of the year!) at the moment, I know a lot of people are considering holidaying in the UK instead of jetting off to the continent or further afield. There are loads of lovely places that you could visit in the UK, but I honestly don't think you could find anywhere better than God's own county. Here's a list of reasons why you should book yourself a Yorkshire staycation...

1) You can explore the Yorkshire Dales

No Yorkshire staycation would be complete without a trip to the Dales and the surrounding towns. Whether you hike the moors, explore natural wonders like Malham Cove and Ingleton Falls or cosy up in a country pub, you definitely won't be bored.

2) The coastline is gorgeous

You could be forgiven for thinking that Yorkshire is all about the rolling hills and pretty countryside villages, but the coastline is just as good. You can visit Scarborough for old school seaside charm or explore the harbour in Whitby - either way, don't forget the fish and chips!

3) Some of the best cities in the UK are here

Both Leeds and Sheffield have undertaken huge redevelopments over the past decade and are now up there with some of the best cities in the UK. Whether you're looking to shop till you drop or enjoy a night on the tiles, you'll be spoilt for choice here in Yorkshire.

4) The food is really good

When you think of Yorkshire food you probably think of the classic Yorkshire pudding, and while they're great, we have lots more to offer. From amazing curry houses to epic street food, you can find it all in Yorkshire - plus we have more Michelin stars than any other county in England.

5) There's loads of history

From ancient abbeys to epic castles, so many of Yorkshire's landmarks have a rich history behind them. There are so many ways to take yourself back in time, from visiting the Brontë sisters' home, exploring old industrial towns or riding on a steam train.

6) The people are lovely

By far my favourite thing about living in Yorkshire is the super lovely people. No matter where you are in this county you'll find friendly, smiley people who are always happy to help or just have a little chat. It's the people that make this such a warm and welcoming place to visit.
