A joyful to do list for March

If January felt like a long month, then February has been quite the opposite. The past four weeks have whizzed by in the blink of an eye, and all of a sudden it’s time to sit down and write my joyful to do list for March.

I always find March to be such a hopeful month, full of new life and blossom, longer evenings and warmer days, and I hope that this to do list will help you to embrace all the very best bits of this transitional time.

As always, I’d love to know what else you’d add to this list - do you have any March traditions or rituals?

Celebrate International Women’s Day

The 8th of March marks International Women’s Day, a day to focus on the advancement of women’s rights and celebrate all that women are achieving around the world. Why not mark the occasion by supporting a female-focused cause that you’re passionate about, championing the women you look up to, and taking some time to celebrate your own achievements? I always find it to be such a positive and uplifting day, and it never fails to remind me why I’m so passionate about the work I do.

Hunt for blossom

One of my very favourite things about March is watching the world come back to life around us, and here in the UK, it’s often the month when all the trees start to burst with blossom. It’s such a beautiful visual celebration of the new season, and watching the pink blooms unfurl always puts a huge smile on my face. The fact that the pretty blossom is so short lived is also a gorgeous reminder to soak up the moment and be present right now, so try to keep a bit of that wisdom with you as you hunt for beauty in nature this month.

Schedule a big spring clean

Tis the season for a big spring clean, and boy am I excited about it! I’m not usually a big fan of cleaning (I really wish I was one of those people who loved it), but there’s something really joyful about marking the end of winter with a big old declutter and sort. I love opening all the windows and airing the house out, dusting the corners that usually go untouched and creating a bit more space and order inside our home.

Plant some seeds

Spring is the perfect time to plant some seeds, both literally and metaphorically! If, like me, you want to have a go at growing a couple of veggies this year, now is the time to get sowing things like chillies, tomatoes and salads so they’ll be ready to enjoy once the summer rolls around. And if gardening isn’t your thing, think about the metaphorical seeds you’d like to plan this month - what can you start working on now that will make your life more joyful when it comes to fruition?

Take some time to reflect on Q1

March marks the last month of our first quarter of 2020, so as the month draws to a close, take some time to reflect on Q1. What went well? What have you achieved in the last 3 months? What challenges have you faced? What goals would you like to set for the second quarter of the year? Taking some time to reflect on all of the highs and lows of Q1 will help you to learn from your experiences and better plan for the weeks and months ahead.

Do something to mark the spring equinox

On March 20th we’ll officially enter spring here in the northern hemisphere, and I love the idea of doing something special to celebrate the equinox. I’m planning to mark it by writing a spring bucket list, filling my house with beautiful blooms, and cooking a big meal for my loved ones using lots of seasonal produce. Spring is a season of rebirth, promise and hope, and after a long, cold winter, I think that’s something worth celebrating.
